It's great to see all of the students interested in Records Management.

I am the President of NIRMA (Nuclear Information and Records Management Association). We are the nuclear industry's leader in information and records management. Since 1976, NIRMA has been uniquely qualified to provide guidance to commercial and Department of Energy facilities in the areas of quality records programs, regulatory compliance activities, electronic records initiatives, document management technologies, and knowledge management issues.

Basically, our membership consists of most, if not all, of the commercial nuclear sites, as well as NRC, NARA, DOE, etc. Many of our member sites store our plant records electronically (including at my site). We have very strict regulations and guidance from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as to the format, storage media, retention, etc., so we feel we have a well-developed electronic policy.

Also, NIRMA is the only other organization who has a formal agreement with ICRM to offer a specialized certification beyond Certified Records Manager. Our designation is "nuclear specialist" and is achieved by passing Part 7.

Good luck in your RM endeavors. It can be a very exciting career!
