Business Asia: Asia Discovers It Needs IP Security, Too - WSJ.com

As Asian companies move steadily up the value chain, a new problem becomes
more and more urgent: protection of intellectual property. Long accustomed
to manufacturing someone else's designs, suddenly Asian companies find they
have design secrets of their own worth protecting.
This issue has come into focus with news last week that several executives
at Taiwan-based HTC are accused of passing the smartphone-maker's
intellectual property to a local government in China in exchange for money
to start the executives' own new venture. Although details have yet to
emerge from this particular case, the kind of activity alleged is becoming
more prevalent.
