I am bidding a corporate project now that has some linkage to the government; as they are a contractor for the government. They sent me five pages of details on not offering bribes, requirements to expose anyone who requests gifts or quid pro quo; details that tell me that everything I present to the company will be open records and on and on.

It was great! I really respect this company now. Our government should be like that.

When Clinton was in office, he de-classified a huge amount of records. So much so that it put one large safe and high security file cabinet company out of business. In one swipe of a pen he eliminated $30 million dollars annually of new file cabinets with high level security from the government purchasing.

Bush also was not forthcoming with his emails and in counter-point Obama ran on a platform of open records and total disclosure. Foolishly, we thought he meant the governments records but he was talking about our email and phone calls.

As David suggested:
> Why? Why not make them entirely public, all the time? After all: we pay for their work; shouldn't we be allowed some degree of oversight?

If government was totally open in real time, fraud and waste would be cut tremendously.

This is not an issue of Democrat or Republican but the issue of Absolute Power corrupting absolutely.

Had the government told us, “We need $100 billion to build a data center in Utah that will intrude on everyone’s lives.” Would the Congress have passed it? Congress as a whole, did not know they were even doing this. This is such a dangerous precent.
