Organized jointly by the International Council on Archives and the National Archives of Belgium, ICA's annual conference will be held on the 23rd and 24th of November of this year and will welcome more than 50 archival specialists from around the world.
One November 24th, Dr.Galina Datovski, independent consultant, Certified Records Manager (CRM) recognized around the world as an expert in information governance and associated technologies will present "From Darkness to Light: How Information Governance Professionals Can Lead the Way to Illuminating the Value of Organizational Information Assets": "Today's most valuable commodity is information. The global economy runs and thrives on information, serving as the foundation for agile decision making and for serving customers. Organizations that are able to make the best use of their information assets can realize significantly higher competitive advantage and success. The volume, variety and velocity of information generation has created an imperative to illuminate the value of information to achieve organizational goals, and to identify and dispose of unnecessary information to contain costs and mitigate risk. However, most organizations are struggling with large collections of "dark data". They don't know its value, if any and spend unnecessary cycles on maintaining said collections. In short, they don't know how to move from "darkness" to "light"."

L'économie globale fonctionne et se développe autour de l'information, qui sert de base pour la prise de décision intelligente et le service aux clients. Les organisations qui savent utiliser au mieux les ressources informationnelles à leur disposition peuvent obtenir un avantage et un succès concurrentiels nettement plus importants. Le volume, la variété et la vitesse de production de l'information a créé un impératif de renforcement de la valeur de l'information pour atteindre des objectifs organisationnels, et à identifier et à éliminer les informations inutiles pour contenir les coûts et atténuer les risques. Cependant, la plupart des organisations sont aux prises avec de grandes collections de données "sombres". Elles ne connaissent pas leur valeur, si toutefois valeur il y a, et passent un temps inutile à entretenir lesdites collections. En bref, ils ne savent pas comment passer de "l'ombre" à la "lumière".
