In addition to LinkFixer, which I haven't looked at, I did some research into available options about a year ago and found ExcelPipe from Datamystic http://www.datamystic.com/excelpipe.html and ReplaceMagic http://www.replacemagic.com/RMProfessionalFull.aspx
Like Glenn, I haven't worked with any of these in real life, and I haven't gotten to the point of insisting that my IT department get us something to start working on this problem. We need something desperately, but it's a question of priorities and available resources (isn't it always).
