I agree with what Patrick had to say. For me, being a Federal employee conferences falling when they do are generally a challenge. The past few years have been much more of a challenge. This has been a particularly hard year for Federal employees. We were on furlough this summer and I knew there wouldn't be money for conferences. We (my husband and I) dipped into savings to pay for the conference and only because I was accepted as a session monitor and we found a really good deal for airfare and rooms at the Mirage. What I didn't count on was getting hit with another furlough right before conference. Like I said, it's been a pretty stressful year. Having said that, I'm not sure if I'll ever get funding again to attend another ARMA conference. Last year when I requested funding, I had to really sell the conference due to the high rate of the registration. My Command thought the price for 2 1/2 days of training was a bit much. If costs can be kept down by going to more affordable locations, then selling the price of registration might be a little easier. Having served on the Board, I do have an understanding of what is involved with conferences. San Antonio was one of our most successful conferences and one of the most affordable. I talked to others this year who either funded the conference fully or partially themself. Government isn't alone when it comes to cutting dollars. It's kind of like having a sell. If you make the total package price more affordable, you may draw more people, and although you don't make as much per item, you make more money overall due to volume. Just my .02 cents (can't even afford 2 cents :-) ).
