Aside from airfare, after all most people will be traveling over 3,000 miles to get here, most accommodations, ground transportation, and food (whether you like Spam or not) is fairly affordable compared to most conference destinations. And yes, Hawaii is a "destination" where attendees can bring their families and enjoy a piece of paradise. On another note, if ARMA truly wants to be International, it will need to extend itself beyond CUSA, which makes Hawaii a viable gateway to Asia where China is experiencing an economic and technological boom...

Frankly, it wouldn't matter to me if a conference is held in Hawaii, but it would be foolish not to consider its merits...

Brian commented [sadly] " Well folks, I just wanted to tell you all that we've tried and will continue to do so, but we can't do anything if ARMA doesn't want to come to our friendly shores..."

Brian, while I would rate Hawaii as a far more appealing destination than Las Vegas, it's also MUCH more expensive to get to: from New York City, current air fares are $668.80 for the cheapest flight (involving 1 stop and change of planes) and $738.40 for the least-expensive non-stop flight. Las Vegas cost me $331 (and I paid slightly more to fly JetBlue).
