TOPIC:  As the Internet, social media and technology in general make our world more and more transparent; there is a growing paradox between individual and organizational information privacy concerns and mandates. It is imperative that information professionals understand both sides of this dichotomy.

Kristen J. Mathews will outline the most recent guidelines surrounding Personally Identifiable Information (PII), Workplace Privacy, Private sector collection and use of data, as it impacts records management. The differential between state, federal and international laws will be discussed, as well as recent case law and trends, and source references. The basics needed for developing a privacy policy will be outlined. Attendees will understand how to use privacy and security concerns as an entrée for helping to sell your information governance programs and initiatives.
