The first computer I used was a library computer in about 1977. I was a work-study student for the ILL (Inter-Library Loan) department of the Michener Library at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO and used the OCLC database to search for books that students needed which our library did not have. I then used a Telex machine to place the orders, as well as to receive and process orders from other libraries. The computer was also used for adding books to the collection, cataloguing them and creating index cards for the then-manual card catalog. Everyone in the library shared use of a single terminal and yet I seldom found it busy when I went back to use it. Just checked on the web and discovered that OCLC is still going strong, almost 40 years later.
