Good afternoon ListServ,

As a 51yo company, we're facing a number of upcoming retirements in our workforce over the next few years. This is significant because we are a small company with about 800 employees, and many of us are baby boomers with 30+ years of service in. By the end of this year we'll have about 25 more to retire, two of whom are from my department that have about 87 years of service between them. There are at least 3 others in my area with 30+ years of service too, and I suspect they'll be joining the retirement ranks soon. We recently had an employee retire with over 47 years of service-not bad for a 51yo company!

Some time ago the term "knowledge management" was the latest RM buzz word, so I'm wondering what-if anything, anyone is doing to somehow "capture the knowledge" of long-time employees as they leave your organizations? As these folks sail off to really let loose (my dream too), their knowledge is, of course, going with them. That knowledge would be extremely valuable for the Company to retain, of course, but we're not sure how to do it. Is anyone practicing knowledge management (ort anything similar) at your organizations? If so, would you be willing to share with me-offline, what-and how you are doing it?

Now, to throw a monkey wrench into the whole thing (you knew this wouldn't be that easy, right?), there are some in our IT area who want to try and figure out how to use SharePoint to capture this escaping knowledge. Is there any one doing that?

Thanks.
Earl
