The ISO TAG (technical action group) that is developing the revision is made up of representatives from each member country. The US is technically represented by ANSI but they sub it out to other associations. ARMA is the U.S. rep for this particular TAG. The various drafts are reviewed and edited by the TAG or a subgroup of the TAG called a SC. Some countries on the TAG disseminate all the drafts to groups within their organizations and the others do not. At a certain point in time, the revised document becomes a Draft International Standard (DIS) that is opened for public comment. ARMA should be notifying the various lists that the draft is available. Since NARA is a part of the U.S. rep, they also sometimes post the link to the draft for public review.

Subject: [RECORDS-MANAGEMENT-UK] Revision of ISO 15489?
To: [log in to unmask]

Hello all,

I've just seen a post to the Australian records management list which deals with a substantial revision of the RM standard ISO 15489 that is apparently well under way, with the next round of comments due by 7th January. Unless I've been very much asleep on the job, I don't recall seeing anything about this on the 'northern hemisphere' lists. The ISO website indicates that Edition 2 of the standard is 'under development'

Does anyone know anything about this review? If it is in progress globally, how do we (as communities of practice or individuals) comment on it?

Regards,
Rachel Hardiman
