Mini Track: Data, Records and Archives in the Cloud
Mini Track Chair: Dr Luciana Duranti, School of Library, Archival and Information Studies, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada
This track explores issues of trust regarding data, records and archival holdings stored and accessed in the cloud. Assurance of provenance, context, reliability, accuracy, and authenticity (continuing identity and integrity) of these materials are critical to business, government, individuals, and society at large, but are too often implicitly assumed rather than explicitly managed. Authentication, a focal point of trust on the internet, which establishes identity, is only one part of trust in data, records and archives that must be used, managed, repurposed, and preserved over the long term. This mini-track invites submissions pertaining to the above-mentioned issues; suggested topics include but are not limited to:
Metadata control and ownership in the cloud
Big data, open data, open access
Confidentiality and privacy policies
Retention and disposition
Chain of custody, chain of evidence
Audit, transparency, traceability and admissibility
Records portability, continuity and sustainability
Data and records reliability, accuracy and authenticity
Authentication and certification
Data, records and archives integrity
Data, records and archives long term preservation
Publication opportunity
Papers accepted for the conference will be published in the conference proceedings, subject to author registration and payment. Selected papers that have been presented at the conference will be considered for
publication in a special issue of the International Journal of Cloud Computing published by Inderscience (ISSN online 2043-9997 ISSN print 2043-9989). Papers will also be considered for publication in the
International Journal of Electronic Security and Digital Forensics published by Inderscience (ISSN online 1751-9128 ISSN print 1751-911X).
Participants will be asked to vote for the best poster and a prize will be given for the poster receiving the highest number of votes. Additionally a prize will be awarded to the best PhD paper presented at the conference.
Submission details
Abstract details:
All submission types require an abstract in the first instance. The Abstract should be a minimum of 300 and no more than 500 words including keywords to be received by 3 April 2014. Please read the <http://academic-conferences.org/abstract-guidelines.htm> Abstract Guidelines section of the website before submitting.
Submission:
Online via the <http://academic-conferences.org/iccsm/iccsm2014/iccsm14-abstract-submission.htm> submission form at http://academic-conferences.org/iccsm/iccsm2014/iccsm14-abstract-submission.htm. Please ensure that you complete all relevant sections of the form, including the conference track the abstract is intended for, the proposed title for the paper, the full names (first name and surname, not initials) and email addresses of all authors and a postal address and telephone number for at least one contact author. Please indicate clearly if the contact author is not the lead author.
Full paper:
Only required when the abstract has been selected and not to be more than 5,000 words including abstract, keywords and references for a total of 10 pages (the Harvard referencing rules need to be followed). Submission date will be no later than 22 May 2014. Authors are advised that this is a final date. Earlier submission of the full paper helps us to manage the review process in a timely manner. This is of particular importance if you will need a visa to attend the conference. Papers should be submitted as .doc or .rtf file attachments by email to <mailto:[log in to unmask]> Julia Hawkins with the paper <http://academic-conferences.org/pdfs/submission_checklist_copyright_form.rtf> submission checklist and copyright form.
Due to the large number of papers expected for this conference, the committee prefers that an author presents only one paper. However, if multiple papers are accepted for publication and presentation, each paper requires a separate registration fee. Author registration and payment must be completed by 18 September 2014 and there are special <http://academic-conferences.org/iccsm/iccsm2014/iccsm14-registration.htm#Group> discounts available for early bird registration and group bookings, including a special reduced rate for supervisors and students attending together

I hope that many of you will submit proposals. It is crucially important that Cloud Providers hear the concerns of records and archives professionals as well as their recommendations.
We count on you to carry the flag of our professional knowledge to this important event.
