ARMA Metro Maryland February Dinner Meeting, Wednesday, February 12, 2014

“Big Data, Information Governance, and Succession Planning: Lessons for Records Managment,” Presented by Dr. Raymond Marbury (DBA, MPA)Program Manager/Analyst, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Administration, Records Information Management

Time: Networking – 6:00 PM, Dinner – 6:30 PM, Presentation – 7:30 PM
Location: Golden Bull Grand Café, 7 Dalamar Street, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 301-948-3666
Program: In 2012, President Obama signed a directive on government records requiring executive branch federal agencies to transition from paper to electronic records keeping by 2019.  During this same period of time, many agencies across the executive branch are creating billions of electronic records daily, without the proper electronic records keeping systems or tools to govern the information collected. Complicating the matter, more than 760,000 baby boomer federal employees will be eligible for retirement in 2016, and institutional knowledge (in some cases) has not been collectively transferred (through records), to the next generation of federal employees for succession planning purposes.  The scenario creates the potential of a “perfect storm,” by not having the right people and information accessible, at the right place, at the right time, to prevent threats to public health, safety, and national security.  This presentation highlights the
challenges and opportunities associated with federal records management from an organizational and human resources perspective.
