I read the article a couple of times. One of the points that caught my
attention - ICE was never notified that the I-9's were ever destroyed. I
reviewed the maintenance requirements for the I-9's. The law states that
hiring organizations must make them available for audit but I couldn't find
any reference that that they must inform the feds before they dispose of
the I-9s. Am I missing something?
Also, Virginia law (Virginia Public Records Act) requires state and local
agencies to document and forward to the Library of Virginia. There is no
indication whether one was completed or not and sent to LVA.
