Coming from the university and academic record realm: I'd like to hear about situations where microfilming of vital permanent records is being supplanted by digital imaging initiatives and whether or not you're continuing to microfilm records for recovery and long-term archival purposes, thus establishing a hybrid approach to retention. In particular, are there any managers of student academic records out there dealing with similar reformatting projects?

We're in the midst of a transition to digital imaging and storage of certain student records (scanning paper, no direct electronic routing yet) for office access and efficiency purposes. However, given the unreliability and instability of electronic mediums over the long-term, I support a continued hybrid model, and would appreciate other insight in the issue.
