I have been a member of both associations for many years (and am a Fellow of both). My perspective is that AIIM is more technology oriented (more vendors and more technology at the conference). I think this evolved from AIIM's original mission as a microfilm association. ARMA is more education oriented, again because it has evolved from a Conference where findings and papers on current records management issues were presented each year. However, both now have an education aspect and a vendor aspect and are very similar. My opinion is that AIIM still covers more technology aspects and ARMA still has more educational offerings in a broader range of RIM issues.
