Mistakes happen. with two previous employers we (records management and
security) had a set of keys for the bins. Two reasons the unit had a large
amount of materials to be put in the bin (didn't want to stand there
putting it through the slot) or an individual had mistakenly put material
in the bin that had to be retrieved. In both cases we opened the containers
and waited until the work was completed then resecured the bin. Having the
keys meant we didn't have to wait until the next visit by the shredding
vendor.
