This could be a long answer if we go into society and social roles.  

In business there are financial reasons but at the same time we are afraid to frame our ideas as potential failures due to the risk/reward dichotomy.   Is losing our job worth the execution of an idea.  If only we were to say at times, this may not work but I would like to try...At least I asked, at least I tried. 

Finally...if I am not given the tools that I need to succed, then in all fairness I would like the freedom to fail.
