Agreed.  But we are going working towards providing a collaboration environment that will hopefully help minimize the shared drives.  Lots of change management involved here!!

Again I agree, but policy and practice are not always equal.  Thus the regular scanning of the drives to get rid of the junk.

We do keep a fair amount of video from our buses/trains/stations, but we do have a retention schedule that covers it.  Also lots of video for our communications department and video and pictures for our capital programs department.  Not only are we documenting work that was done, but preserving a select amount that may have historical value over the years.  Proud to say that we are transforming public transportation in the Denver Metro area that will have significant long term impacts for the region, thus the historical value.
