So you think you own your electronic data, do you? Think again - Lexology

A consensus has emerged from the Courts of Appeal in New Zealand and the UK
that digital data is not property for the purposes of the law.

The two courts used different reasoning but arrived at the same conclusion.
This issue is important because it runs to the protection and remedies
available to an innocent party against misuse of electronic data.
