While I cannot speak for all vendors, I can tell you that HP certainly employs former records managers, with CRM credentials. One of the CRMs (me) is responsible for the functional development of our information governance solutions. While our goal is to make our products as user-friendly as possible, with zero footprint, there are functions and features that we must provide to maintain certification with standards such as DoD 5015.02, MoReq, and VERS. Even ISO 15489.

We have two CRMs in our Professional Services department that provide consulting services and assist customers in configuring the software to comply with their business processes.

If the system that you deployed in your organization seems overly complicated, then perhaps it is not configured properly.

I agree that we vendors enjoy showing off our bells and whistles because we believe that is what sets us apart from our competitors.

The next time you invite a vendor to demonstrate his wares to you, provide guidance on what you want to see, such as show me practical methods to manage emails or physical records with the fewest amount of key strokes and data entry. You may be surprised about how your business processes can simplified in today's modern governance management systems!
