There is a set of vendors whose livelihood depends on denying that SharePoint is an adequate Records Repository, because they are selling a separate records repository to contain SharePoint (and other) content. There is another set of vendors that market and sell inside SharePoint Records Repository add-in solutions very successfully by filling in gaps in the product. Finally, Microsoft and many consultants will tell you that SharePoint out-of-the-box is an adequate Records Repository. Depending on who you ask, these are the three most likely answers. Based on the level of detail that you can get to in listserv messages, this is a likely to be a religious discussion without a real conclusion. Whether SharePoint standalone or with add-ins or another product is the right Records Repository solution for your organization depends on your needs.

Thanks,

Subject: Share Point Question

I have been told that Share Point is not considered to be records repository but is a collaboration tool. There are a lot of reasons but mostly that there is no revision control, etc. What do those of you in list-serv land think or do you have some official edict that says the same thing? Just trying to pulse the field.
