LINCOLN — A legal fight over Nebraska’s digital court records appears
headed for trial.

Bruce Friedman of Omaha has sued to get a copy of the data within the
state’s electronic court records network. Friedman, an information
technology designer, argues that the data are simply digital versions of
records anyone could see by walking into a courthouse.

“I really think this begs the question what are public records and what is
the government’s responsibility to provide them,” Friedman said.

"The problems of our economy have occurred not as an outgrowth of
laissez-faire, unbridled competition.
They have occurred under the guidance of federal agencies, and under the
umbrella of federal regulations."
Senator Ted Kennedy, in defending trucking deregulation in 1978.
