It’s a fact. Email is making us slower, less productive and even dumber. The average employee now checks email 36 times an hour <https://www.ics.uci.edu/%7Egmark/Home_page/Research_files/CHI%202012.pdf>, spending a full 13 hours a week <http://www.mckinsey.com/insights/high_tech_telecoms_internet/the_social_economy> reading, deleting, sending and sorting emails. Each time we’re distracted with an email, it takes an average of 16 minutes <http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/horvitz/chi_2007_iqbal_horvitz.pdf> (yes, 16 minutes) to refocus on the task at hand. But the news gets worse: Workers who check email frequently suffer a 10-point drop in IQ <http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/04/22/text.iq/>, the equivalent of missing an entire night’s sleep. http://bit.ly/1D1CVSH http://bit.ly/1D1CVSH+ -- Peterk Dallas, Tx Save our in-boxes! http://emailcharter.org "The problems of our economy have occurred not as an outgrowth of laissez-faire, unbridled competition. They have occurred under the guidance of federal agencies, and under the umbrella of federal regulations." Senator Ted Kennedy, in defending trucking deregulation in 1978.
