Speaking of this topic…. my kids gave us for Christmas a gift of converting all of the videos to a digital collection. The first set of videos cost $600 to play and record them on to a 3 Tb drive. Today I will take in the final tapes so probably another $600. (My kids think this costs about $300.00 for the whole 40 tape collection) Ha Ha.

But in the long run I think this is a good idea. Three kids, their whole childhood, all of my 5 dogs through their lives and almost every soccer game, wrestling match and little league football game.

But now I will have one drive and then I thought I could load this into the Cloud so the kids could go look at it and they promise to sort them out using iMovie into collections. All the football here, all the Christmas here, all the Easter egg hunts there.

Any thoughts on how to store this collection over time and in an order that is searchable. I don’t think my kids realize how much work this will be. This doesn’t have to be British Museum or NARA quality stuff. After all most Christmases we are in our pajama with uncombed hair, eating candy from the stockings as we shred packages.

But the memories are priceless. I bought a new drive from Apple to load everything so it will be nothing but movies on it. But developing an order seems daunting.
