Stephen asked "... what level of detail is recommended as proof of destruction at the document level? What pieces of metadata should be retained, if any, for auditing/reporting purposes?"

In our Autonomy Records Manager application, both the original indexing information AND the tracking information are maintained. 

This works for us.
