Mike Rodgers, the state data manager who leaked emails from former Gov.
John Kitzhaber's personal email account, has left state government in
return for a nearly $300,000 settlement.

The deal brings to a close one of the stranger subplots of the downfall of
the former governor, who remains under a joint FBI-IRS criminal
influence-peddling probe. The emails, which the state says were
inadvertently archived, provided details of Kitzhaber discussing strategy
with his lawyers, among other things.

"The problems of our economy have occurred not as an outgrowth of
laissez-faire, unbridled competition.
They have occurred under the guidance of federal agencies, and under the
umbrella of federal regulations."
Senator Ted Kennedy, in defending trucking deregulation in 1978.
