Very well said. As a librarian of 30+ years afraid the profession and schools are clearly out of date with today's reality. More so than is usually the case.

Hi Anita,
You are spot on with your comments - the mythical academic/research librarian or archivist whose job is all unicorns and rainbows. I graduated a few years ago and that culture was firmly entrenched. That is part of the problem that I think many SLIS programs are finding. They keep encouraging and churning out librarians and archivists for very specific job descriptions without realizing they are behind the curve in a changing field.
It is a much deeper issue that really involves revisiting what schools mean when they add "Information" to their degree area. But for now, I am just trying generate some interest in ARMA so we can get more students involved. I figure we have to start somewhere, right?
