I must disagree with Mr. Guerino.
This is the classic IT response that is the root of the digital landfill.
How did this thread start?  "New day but same stories"?
Of course there are records (paper and digital) that must/should be kept
for long term or permanent for the all reasons stated in the previous
responses.  But that does not mean that all the garbage - especially
digital garbage - should clog our storage devices and increase retrieval
times and effort.  This is essentially the same argument that many
companies still use to justify the "pack rat" mentality for "paper".  Life
cycle management applies to all records regardless of media and/or format.
Life cycle management is the "governance" for records and information and
if IT still doesn't get it then they should not be part of Information
Governance.
