Today, Microsoft announced its Advanced Data Governance (ADG) features for Office 365 on the Office blog (https://blogs.office.com/2017/04/04/announcing-the-release-of-threat-intelligence-and-advanced-data-governance-plus-significant-updates-to-advanced-threat-protection/ ). Microsoft is providing the ability to assign retention policy to content uniformly across the O365 platform, retaining content in-place in each of the application services, including email, lists, SharePoint sites, OneDrive for Business, and Office 365 Groups. Advanced Data Governance provides uniform retention tagging for all of the types of content in-place in Office 365. Traditionally, information policy has been managed in ECM platforms, or federated to repositories that lacked governance capabilities from policy hub services. ADG provides an important new set of governance capabilities to consider. There is a wealth of information in the Office blog, including demonstration videos. I believe this will be an important discussion topic for records managers.
