Julie, very well done! What you've said is exactly correct IMHO.

Cheers
David.

Thanks for the responses. I tried wikipedia but it made my brain hurt for
some reason ...

I think I get it now. David, in response to what you said, it made me think
about one of the many conundrums of ERM ... "manage in place or move to a
separate repository". I'll take a stab at integrating what you said -
please feel free to call me out if I'm off the mark ...

In the instance of a RM system being deployed in a SOA, the RM functionality
would be able to apply across the organization's repositories (i.e. provide
the service), so long as the repositories are able to properly "talk" to the
RM system (but the RM system doesn't care if it's web content, a Word
document, a .wav file, etc., just so long as the communication path is open
and clear).

And further, that might be good (for me, at least) in terms of not having to
reengineer business processes in order to realize the benefits of applying
the RM functionality - the biz process stays the same and RM is applied to
it as a service (by invocation or automation - choose your poison).

Am I close or has my brain completely shut down for today? If the latter,
then I'm leaving now since Happy Hour began a good 5 minutes ago!
