Somewhat tangential to this, but something I've seen with other certs and in
other industries. Has the ICRM ever done its own salary survey to assess the
differential in salary between CRMs and non-certified professionals? I know
Ray Cunningham has done some work in this area, but I don't know the extent
to which those numbers have been crunched to account for differences in
years of experience, gov't vs. private sector, consultants vs. employees,
etc. I know CompTIA has done some studies in this area with regards to
certification in general and their various certifications specifically.

I wonder also how many CRMs there are with the broad and deep expertise that
is called for in the subsequent listing - there are only c. 870 CRMs in the
world, and many of them are either already employed or don't have the
requisite expertise.

I do think this is an important discussion to have as the number of
credentials requested continues to grow and broaden (PMP, CDIA+, CA, the
AIIM certificates which will eventually become certifications, etc.). There
should be some mechanism for candidates to understand the benefit to
themselves; the follow-up of course is to identify in quantifiable terms as
much as possible what benefits accrue to an organization for using a CRM
over someone "with more years of experience, preferably with a large company
or law firm, do not require the CRM".

And that's something that the ICRM and ARMA on one hand, and the members of
this and related communities on the other, should definitely have an
interest in. I don't see how it could be taken as disrespect if there is a
disconnect between the CRM and increased responsibilities and salary levels
- indeed, *if* that is the case, it's something that needs to be addressed
sooner than later in order for the CRM to remain relevant. There's a certain
amount of prestige associated with the various credentials, but that and
three bucks will get you a cuppa joe. If I'm going to spend time, energy,
and cash to get certified, I want to know there's some payoff at the end of
the rainbow. If that makes me a crass commercialist, I'm arguably in the
majority.

And FWIW, I went out to the website and didn't see the job posting; most of
those that were posted had no salaries listed.

I hate job postings without salaries.

Respectfully submitted,

Jesse Wilkins

Not intended as a dig at you OR the designation Ginny, but I FULLY
understand it!!

And no, I won't go into details here because this community has a NUMBER of
CRMs that I **DO** respect =)
