No, actually, we need the very dedicated core of people to continue the work
that has been going on for a long time now because this is a VERY IMPORTANT
product for the RIM Profession and Professionals working in and around it.

An early disclaimer... I'm proud to have been involved in this project since
the very beginning, as have a few others who can decide if they want to "out
themselves" or not. And a clarification... you will notice that I refer to
the output of this RIM Competencies Project as a 'product'. That doesn't
mean it's being designed for sale, it's intended to identify it as a work
product of the participants, meant for the target audience within the RIM
Profession.

There is a lot of care being paid to ensuring this product, when first
released, is what it has been billed as. And it will not be released as a
finished product, because it is intended to be a "living project" that will
continue to be updated and improved as time goes along... and that is
something we all should appreciate.

Just like all of us, the scope of the project will continue to change and
get richer in content as time goes along, and in this way, it will continue
to provide value to all of us who elect to go through the self-assessment
and analysis of needs periodically. Our knowledge and skills will improve
and the positions we work in will evolve over time, so this isn't a static
assessment.

The toughest thing will be developing the training that doesn't currently
exist to allow practitioners and professionals to achieve the level of
skills and knowledge required to satisfy all of the needs identified as part
of the tasks related to the various facets of records and information
management in the current workplace. ARMA is intending to provide reference
information related to the existing course offerings available, and to work
with educators adn professionals to develop the training necessary to "fill
the gaps".

Having heard from some of you who started and chose not to finish the
survey, and others of you who stuck it out and went through the entire
process, I think it's apparent an exhaustive amount of work has gone into
developing this product.

Personally, I'm willing to wait (and keep working) for the first delivered
product. As a RIM Professional, I've wanted this for over a decade and I
know many of you have as well.

Larry
