Obviously public and private organizations may have reason to handle their
records differently, but here in Island County the County Code calls for the
permanent retention of departmental meeting minutes and related staff notes.
This local legislation existed before I arrived on the scene, but it was
felt, at the time the requirement became law, that because these discussions
provided background material and served to illuminate any public hearings
associated with resolutions and ordinances that were later passed by the
Board of County Commissioners, they were important to retain.

Director,Island County Records and Information Program

include program discussions and decisions.
