That is my understanding as well; I haven't read DoD5015.2 in a while (and
chewing my way through v3 right now!
http://informata.blogspot.com/2007/06/dod-50152-v3-is-available.html) but I
don't think a solution can be certified that doesn't manage physical
records.

I am working with a client right now that is evaluating Sharepoint 2007 - I
will do some research and let the list know what I find.

Excuse if my IT terminology isn't quite right, but I was told by an
integrator that physical records can be managed by creating an object-type
for them. Then you create the metadata fields that you want collected for
that object like for any other electronic object. In this case there just
isn't anything actually attached to the metadata, just a pointer to a field
that says "box 99999" or "file this-and-that" or core sample or whatever
physical object it is.

I'm murky on the exact details, but I believe this is the gist of it. The
demo given didn't have an example of this though. I would really like to see
an example of how that works.

This is a section for Record Center that you should read, if I understand
this they are saying that it can manage physical records. I think one will
really have to give it a try before making a decision on whether or not it
will work.
