Dear Colleagues,

NO! No! NO!

RM should not be placed inside or under the control of IT.

Why? They are two totally different and independent disciplines.

The definition of Information Technology - IT from Wikipedia is probably
a good definition of the term.

Should RM & IT work collaboratively under the same umbrella environment
e.g. Information Management or a Chief Information Officer? A big YES!
They must.

Again I refer readers to Wikipedia for their definition of Records
Management - RM and also Information Management - IM and Chief
Information Officer - CIO.

Do I agree that RM & IT are a critical mix and integration and
collaborative requirement that without which any RM environment will,
not may, fail?

A big YES in CAPITALS, UNDERLINED and in "PARENTATHIES".

Readers may care to review my article entitled - The interdependency of
Records and Information Management (RIM) and Information Technology &
Telecommunications (IT & T) or Information Technology & Communications
(IT & C) - November 2005 located online @
http://www.records-management.com.au/publications.shtml?interdependency_
of_RIM_ITT_ITC

My ten[10] cents worth.

Regards, Laurie Varendorff
