You'll probably find more state than federal requirements for
construction records, and they will vary from state to state. You will
probably have to look in statutes and regulations for the various
functionality of a construction or architectural firm. For example, in
New Mexico (at least a few years ago that is) there was a limitation of
action of 10 years to sue for faulty construction. This meant any
building permit inspections and final approved permit drawings would
have to be kept at least that long to show compliance with local and
state permit requirements (and aid in third party lawsuits). Another
example was the construction licensing records that had to be kept a
period of time after termination (I don't remember how long) - to show a
contractor or plumber or whatever was licensed when doing the work.

Do any resources exist that pull together state/federal retention
regulations for the architecture and construction industries? It's one
of those Fridays when what I think I can find easily cannot be found (by
me). Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.
