Here's one possible solution from our old friends at Smead:

Subject: [RM] Hanging folders - just the rods and tab slots?

Greetings, I'll call this a space and cost management question.

Imagine you take an old hanging folder and cut off two inches from the
top. (Maybe you have!) You recycle the folder and you're left with the
two rods, with the paper slots for tabs still attached. Now you can
place and move tabs wherever you like in a drawer, without the bulk of
an entire folder.

Does any supply company sell these rods just so? Have you come up with
a make-shift solution to display tabs that is faster than spending all
day at the guillotine?

The closest thing I'm familiar with is PrintFile selling plastic rods
for their hangable negative sleeves. And they weren't cheap.

Cheers,
Luke Sather
