At a previous employer, we were not using the Open Text email mgmt tools, although we were moving down the path to implementing them but were stopped due to being acquired. However, we did have several users in project teams use Livelink to manage their emails through the Outlook interface. They would drag and drop emails into project folders. From an RM perspective, they inherited the retention schedule for the folder they were placed in just like the other items in that folder, so there were no issues with that.
Like someone else said, the major issues are change management and training, but the user experience has to be high on the list as well.
