Responses may vary widely according to what information is contained in
the personnel file for that organization. As an example, some
organizations may have a department that manages retirements and
benefits. Thus, they would have the long-term information related to
health insurance, pension, 401-K, 401-A, and 357 plans that require the
really long-term retentions in their files; which are separate from
personnel. In those cases, the department that manages the personnel
function likely has a short retention for the personnel file info;
several years after retirement or termination.

Some organizations lump it all together organizationally and thus would
retain the whole info file (personnel and benefits) together for the
long-term.

Best regards, Steve
