Let me rephrase this to be more exacting, per the current NFPA 232
Standard, since someone may walk out tomorrow to look at a
compartment size. This should say a compartment size of 1,200,000
cubic feet in a single compartment.

The old days where records centers stopped at 27' or 30' or even 40'
are no more! The 40,000 sq. ft. model won't work if your records are
in a warehouse 65' high. So to be accurate compartment sizes under
NFPA 232 are now measured as a total volume of cubic feet not to
exceed 1,200,000 in a compartmented center. (9.1.3)

And an additional caveat, your records center provider may have
decided that they are not willing to offer a compartmented facility.
If they have disclosed to you that they are a non-compartmented
records center and you have accepted that as a records manager, then
none of the previous conditions matter.

It was pointed out to me that some records managers really don't care
how large the compartment was and others don't really even require
that their records be stored in a compartmented records center.

The records center operator can offer you a facility that is non-
compartmented and comply with NFPA 232. And you could accept that!
It is first incumbent on you to require that your records be stored
within a compartmented records center. It was pointed out to me that
very few records managers even write that into their specifications.

If you can accept that millions of boxes can be exposed to
destruction in a single fire, then the rest of the ethics test is a
waste of time.
