Peter, I am sorry you took my comment to be "snarky" (thought I'm not entirely clear what that means, it's obviously not nice). I did not intend to be nasty, and I apologise if it came across to you that way.

The fact remains that there are many, many blogs in cyberspace. I do not have time to read them, much less reply to them. Many of them appear to be the contemporary equivalent of "vanity publication", with content of unpredictable value.

I have never heard of Mr. Wright, so I have no opinion of him one way or the other. My question was, and remains, why should any of us take the time to reply to a particular blog? It's one thing to write a "letter to the editor" of the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal; one has the assurance that, should the letter be published, it will be read by a large audience. With a blog, there's no such assurance: the total readership of the blog might be five persons and that's WITHOUT taking into account the quality of the content.

I agree in general with your comment that "Its all well in good for us to discuss the problems we face within our own
little group, but if we want to convince folks that such things as keeping
all emails for x period of time is wrong then we need to step outside or our
world and start pointing out the errors in blogs such as Mr. Wrights." I just don't usually have the time to address errors in each blog individually (I'm out sick this week, so have more time than usual). Since you seem to think Mr. Wright's blog has both value and an audience, I will post a reply next week, assuming anything I can say hasn't already been said by you, Larry, Doug and other respondents.

Best regards, and have a good weekend.

P.S. Does "snarky" derive from "The Hunting of the Snark" by Lewis Carroll?

actually fred I don't know if Jesse reads Mr. Wrights blog or not (which I
suspect means you haven't even visited it to see what was written therer)
but Larry Medina, Doug Allen and others took the time to write thoughtful
responses to the original posting my purpose for sharing the blog posting is
that here is an opportunity to educate or share our knowledge with an
individual who has been involved with electronic commerce since the early
1990s. In fact I have a copy of his first book about e-commerce.

Its all well in good for us to discuss the problems we face within our own
little group, but if we want to convince folks that such things as keeping
all emails for x period of time is wrong then we need to step outside or our
world and start pointing out the errors in blogs such as Mr. Wrights. He did
ask for more comments

you don't have to respond but to post a snarky comment such as you did, you
could have had the courtesy to email me privately rather than posting to the
entire list.

If you don't have the time to comment fine, I can appreciate it, but don't
downplay what others may be trying to do to influence outside world
