Some state governments may require that public agencies retain web
pages, hence making that a legal requirement.
North Carolina's Guidelines are available here:
http://www.records.ncdcr.gov/erecords/default.htm#web
And this is from the State of Washington's retention schedule for local
government records
(http://www.sos.wa.gov/_assets/archives/CORE%202.1.pdf):
Communications - Executive
Internal and external communications to or from the agency's elected
official(s) and/or executive management, that are made or received in
connection with the transaction of public business, and that are not
covered by a more specific records series.
Includes all communication types, regardless of format:
* Correspondence, email;
* Web sites/forms/pages, social networking posts and comments, etc.;
Includes, but is not limited to:
* Requests for and provision of information/advice;
* Agency-initiated information/advice.
Excludes non-executive communications covered by DAN GS2010-001.
Excludes public records requests covered by DAN GS2010-014.
Excludes the provision of routine information covered by DAN GS50-02-01.
Note: Information/advice published online by the agency continues to be
"provided" until the date it is removed/withdrawn.
Requirement may vary from state to state.

Folks,
Have any of you been advised that there is (or are) legal reason(s) for
you to capture a specific website at your enterprise? Not for
historical reasons but for legal reasons. Not technical solutions; just
why. On or off the list is fine. Dick King, University of Arizona
