I am compiling a list of common elements I have seen in social media
policies that I have surveyed. If you care to, please add to this list
any elements you  have seen  included in social media policies that you
have read.

 

 

-          Purpose Statement

-          Definitions of related terms.

-          Examples of types of Social Media/Names of Sites

-          Encourages employee use of social media for productivity
and/or company promotion; acknowledges of freedom of speech for personal
social media use.

-          Addresses organization-created social media facing outward.

-          Addresses organizational social media use for internal
collaboration.

-          Addresses individual use of social media that is not company
created or sponsored.  

-          Cites privacy concerns/laws for individuals.

-          Specifies corporate privacy needs of the organization.

-          Addresses control of organization's brand/logo/copyright.

-          Includes by reference the organization's related HR, internet
use, technology use, & privacy policies.

-          Addresses liability concerns regarding incorrect
information/advertising

-          Addresses liability concerns regarding inappropriate conduct:
obscene language, harassment, slurs, insults

-          Assigns responsibilities.

-          Includes "Do's and Don'ts"'

-          Addresses employer's right to monitor employees' use of
company equipment; conduct on company time.

-          Signature/acknowledgement sheet
