When working with technology, there are times when you are faced with either
a voluntary or involuntary situation requiring a migration of your data.
Examples include:
- Moving from one server to another due to storage considerations
- You are notified that your current software is now “unsupported” and won’t
be in the future
- Technology obsolescence occurs
When it does, “Migration Happens”.
In planning and preparing for a migration, there are certain things you will need
to consider and make happen before, during, and after. This session will
provide an overview and “watch out for the cliff edge” strategies to aid in a
successful migration. We will present examples from the Washington State
Digital Archives of their experiences shifting large amounts of data.
Our presenter is Leslie Koziara, CRM, ERMp. She is an electronic records
management consultant for the Washington State Archives. Her career has
spanned both hard copy and electronic records. Today Leslie provides
consultation and training to Washington's state and local government agencies
on all aspects of records management, including retention requirements and
disposition for public records.
