I disagree. As a former practicing archivist (but always an archivist and records manager), I can accurately say that apart from a few eccentrics, archivists are the antithesis of hoarders. Hoarders keep anything and everything. Archivists pare down to just those items of enduring value, usually 2-5% of the whole.

To Peter's point we aren't really two rival species, though that was how it was portrayed to me in grad school. We're more like two sides of the same coin.
