A former colleague who lives in NJ got a call from his son's teacher last year asking why his son never got help on his math when the teacher wrote a note requesting a meeting on his math test. Turns out the teacher wrote the note in cursive and his son had no idea what it was. He could not read cursive at all.

I was floored at first, then not...my cynicism and harsh reality quickly set in.
