This course is geared towards a broad range of professionals who are
interested in understanding the core principles and practices used in the
field of records management. In this course, you will explore the life
cycle management processes associated with the creation, use, storage,
distribution and disposition of business records. Participants will learn
about the ‘rules and tools’ needed to design recordkeeping systems and
manage records, regardless of media or format, for as long as they are
needed in compliance with an evolving set of legal, regulatory, business
and historical requirements. The course will wrap up with a look at the
convergence of multiple information management disciplines and domains and
what the future holds for records management in the realm of Information
Governance.

Records processes and controls - Tools and rules: Part 1

Long-term digital preservation and access
Records management in film and in the news
Converging information management disciplines and the future of records
management
Expectations: A pass/fail grade will be awarded based on reading online
material, participating in online discussions, and completing two written
assignments.
Instructor: Lori Ashley is an independent consultant specializing in the
field of records and information management (RIM). She works with small,
medium and large organizations – public, private sector and not-for-profits
– to help improve processes, practices and controls for valued information
assets. She is well versed in international and national standards in
records management, information security, metadata, thesauri development,
and long-term digital preservation.
