Hi everyone -
I am processing the records and historical documents of a dissolved
(private) New York State Montessori school that my institution owned and
operated, which makes my institution the legal holding entity for record
retention/compliance.
I am applying the "Codes, Rules and Regulations of the State of New York
Title 8 Education Department" for figuring out what my institution needs to
retain. However, the complete title of the schedule specifies school
districts, BOCES, etc - essentially, schools run by the state. This school
was not.
I wonder if I am comparing apples to oranges. Is there a separate schedule
out there for private schools, or should I be applying a record schedule
for non-specific NYS businesses instead? There is some good in using the
Title 8 schedule however, because this Montessori School participated in
the federal Child and Adult Food Care program .I also think the general
wisdom behind the education-specific regulations are transferable to
private schools, like retaining immunization records until 18-27yrs in case
students later need them for college admissions.
Please let me know what you think!
