Congrats on your new knee, Larry, and welcome back! I, too, have been putting off knee surgery for a few years for the same reason you did - the technology keeps improving. Having read your results, I may just get moving on scheduling mine.

Subject: Oh, and YES....
...I'm BAAAAAACK !!!
Many thanks to those of you who have asked about my whereabouts over the past 3+ months and the limited number of postings.
Sadly, it did NOT signal my retirement, but instead was the result of a knee replacement and subsequent rehab and physical therapy. I'm all done with both (formally) and continuing with PT on my own, and back to work at 75% until January.
And YES... it was a success!! I'm able to walk more than a mile (without
pain) now, and increasing that weekly. And for the first time since 2005, I am NO LONGER required to wear a brace to avoid bone-on-bone contact and enable me to walk with limited pain.
Do I wish I had done it sooner? NO. The technology of both the replacement components and the surgery improved EXPONENTIALLY while I waited.
The surgery is done using a laser guided approach, is more accurate, and is much less invasive than previous processes. The current knees (elemental tantalum, no longer titanium) and meniscus (Highly Cross-linked Polyethylene, with a 96% reduction in wear) last substantially longer.
Thinking about getting it done? The results and recovery time are different for everyone, and a lot of your success depends of preparing for the surgery, selecting a TOP NOTCH surgeon, and WORKING YOUR @$$ off in rehab and PT following the surgery... but 'd recommend for anyone who is a candidate.
